Upgrading Databases using the Database Upgrade Wizard
By Lynette Davy, Meridian Sr. Tehnical Analyst

To assist in the process of upgrading databases, Meridian has a new tool that can be used when upgrading to Prolog Manager 2008 R1. The new tool "Database Upgrade Wizard" will enable you to upgrade to Prolog Manager 2008 R1 without having to access Prolog Administrator. This Stand Alone wizard will verify that your databases are ready to be upgraded before upgrading to the new version of Prolog. The wizard verifies your data by removing any duplicate values. After verifiying the database you are able to proceed with the upgrade.

The wizard will verify the database for the following:

  • Unique IDs: All records and forms must have a unique ID (e.g. Number, Code). It will verify the ID as a set (e.g. Meeting Minutes) and as an individual (e.g. Meeting Items). If a duplicate ID is detected, the utility will append a sequential suffix to the duplicate IDs.
  • Uniquie GUIDs: All GUIDs must be unique per project. If a duplicate GUID is detected, the utility will append a sequential suffix to the GUID.
  • Unique Descriptions: The description must be unique within a record, form or group (e.g. descriptions of a list group or the Action description of a look group).
  • Last Modified Date: All forms and records must now have a Last Modified Date. If the utility detects a blank date it will insert the current date.

Only databases from Prolog Manager 7.5 and higher can be upgraded using the Database Upgrade Wizard. If your databases are not yet at version 7.5, you must upgrade them to at least 7.5 first. The upgrade can only be reversed by restoring your database from a backup file.

Install the program on any machine. When the program starts you will get the following box, enter in the name of the SQL Server and instance (if applicable).

Include the databases you wish to upgrade then follow through the prompts.
